Midweek Roundup 8th April 2026

This week’s strategy gaming news includes two upcoming releases with confirmed dates, a full launch for Pompeii: The Legacy, a franchise milestone from 11 bit studios, and a pair of earlier-stage announcements.

Pompeii: The Legacy Launches April 9th

The solo developer behind Pompeii: The Legacy has released a final trailer ahead of the game’s full launch on April 9th across Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Green Man Gaming, and Gamesplanet. The release brings the complete story campaign, running to over twenty hours, alongside new systems and balance improvements developed in response to community feedback during Early Access. The game rebuilds ancient Pompeii across multiple generations, with economic management, political decisions, dynamic events, and the ever-present threat of disaster forming the pillars of the experience. The whole thing, including the custom engine running underneath it, was built by a single developer. Steam Page

Frostpunk 2 Second DLC Dated, Franchise Hits 11 Million Players

11 bit studios has announced that Breach of Trust, the second DLC for Frostpunk 2, will release on June 23rd, revealed as part of a broader franchise update timed to the series reaching eleven million players across both games. The DLC is a fully realised scenario set in New Edinburgh, a city built near a volcano destabilised by overuse of geothermal energy, with players managing the crisis as First Citizen while subject to periodic Votes of Trust measuring their public approval. A closed playtest is now open for sign-ups via Steam. Separate announcements confirmed Frostpunk 1886, described as a definitive version of the original game with substantial new content, and a port of the original Frostpunk to Nintendo Switch. A comic book set in the Frostpunk universe, produced in partnership with Rocketship Entertainment with writer Justin Jordan and illustrator Ryan Benjamin attached, was also announced. A Steam sale across the franchise is currently active.

Repterra Launch Date Set for April 28th

MicroProse and developer Chute Apps have confirmed April 28th as the launch date for Repterra on Steam, alongside a teaser trailer showcasing a visual overhaul that brings improved environments, lighting, and battlefield readability. The game is a base-building survival RTS set in an alternate history where dinosaurs have overrun the modern world and collapsed civilisation, with players constructing and defending colonies against continuous prehistoric assault while also breeding, taming, and riding dinosaurs as combat assets. Three factions are included, each with distinct units and heroes, alongside genetic mutation systems for hero development and meta-progression carrying across runs. The game targets over 100,000 dinosaurs on screen simultaneously at 60 frames per second. A demo is currently available on Steam. Steam Page

City States: Medieval Early Access on April 20th

Reverie World Studios and publisher indie.io have confirmed April 20th as the Early Access launch date for City States: Medieval on Steam. The game is set in the 12th century and places players in control of one of several historically prominent city-states across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, including Novgorod, Genoa, and Tripoli, managing trade routes across twelve distinct goods while navigating diplomacy and conflict. Combat is real-time with tower defense elements applied to city sieges, and a hero system drawn from historical figures introduces an asymmetry between periods when the leader is present, granting full command, and periods of absence, during which the city-state operates under a reduced maintenance government. No pricing has been confirmed. Steam Page

TownsFolk Release Date Set for April 20th

Swedish developer Short Circuit Studio and publisher Snapbreak Games have confirmed April 20th as the launch date for TownsFolk on Steam, with a mobile release also planned. The game is a survival strategy title with roguelite campaign structure, skirmish mode, and puzzle challenges, set in an uncharted frontier where players manage scarce resources, respond to dynamic events, and maintain tribute obligations to the kingdom. The presentation is pixel art with atmospheric audio. Pricing has not been announced. Steam Page

Factory Magnate Targeting April 28th Launch

Publisher indie.io and developer Rising Tail have confirmed April 28th as the launch date for Factory Magnate on Steam and the indie.io store. The game is a casual factory-building simulation designed around accessibility, removing the complexity floors typical of the genre in favour of objective-based progression, procedurally generated maps, and a defined endgame. Around 25 machines and buildings are included alongside over 50 items to produce and refine, with no combat or time pressure present. A free demo is currently available on Steam. Steam Page
