On the last episode of Critical Moves, Joe did something unforgivable. He talked me into a bet. If you listened all the way to the end, you’ll already know what’s coming. For everyone else, here’s the moment in full:
Joe: No Al, play Terra Invicta.
Al: We’re going to play Terra Invicta. Okay. If we do not have 1,000 subs on our YouTube channel by the end of next week, so a week today, and when I say today, I mean episode release, then we will do a live stream playing Terra Invicta. I will play Terra Invicta. Joe’s going to hold my hand and support me through it. There may be rum involved and we will play Terra Invicta until such a time as we hit 1,000 subs. We’re at 945.
We’re now at 952. I need 48 subscribers in the next seven days.
For context, Terra Invicta is one of the most brutally complex strategy games ever made. Joe is aware of this. That is exactly why he suggested it.

Joe will be there throughout, offering what he describes as ‘support’ but what I strongly suspect will mostly be mean comments. There will be rum to numb the pain. There will almost certainly be suffering.
I’m putting this in your hands. Head to the channel and hit subscribe. Tell a friend. Tell an enemy. Tell anyone who enjoys strategy games, developer interviews, or watching a man make poor decisions in real time.
