It was kinda an accident

I thought it might be a good idea to chart the developmental progress of Critical Moves on a couple of blog posts. For those who may be interested in understanding how such a thing comes about. I’ll start by saying, “it was kinda an accident.”

In fact, I don’t exactly remember how it came about. I emailed Nuno at Strategy and Wargaming after starting RTS HQ. My intention was to maybe do some link exchanges or something along those lines. I had always read his blog – and I admit to a little bit of envy at how well he was doing. I was starting out. The young pretender. He was the established, accomplished blogger in the realm of strategy games. He could have dismissed me if he had chosen to do so.

He didn’t. On August 31, Nuno dropped a link to my site in his latest strategy gaming news round-up. An extremely generous gesture.

I found was some form of strange, Portuguese, kindred spirit, We hit it off over email and then over Discord. He mentioned always wanting to do a podcast. I’ve always listened to podcasts, normally when I am taking myself to bed. I enjoy listening as I wind down. I never imagined myself involved in the creation of one.

On the 1st of September 2024 I registered this domain. I can’t recall where the idea for the name came from. Everything has happened so damned quickly! Fifteen days later we’re a team of five; Nuno, Al, Shane, Timothy and Joe. You can read about us on our meet the team page if you want to know more about the guys behind this podcast. Or not. Your call.

Some how, strangely, and quite accidentally, we’re on the cusp of producing and releasing a strategy gaming podcast. I’m very excited.

Al
